Web Design vs. Web Development?
Many people believe that web design and web development mean the same thing. However, there is a big difference between the two terms.
A website is comprised of two different parts; we at Fresh Element call these two parts 1) the front end (a/k/a web design), and 2) the back end (a/k/a web development).
The front end of a website is the portion that the public sees. The creation of the front end is usually done by a graphic designer and is referred to as web design. The web site design process includes the look and feel of the website, graphics, images, and content.
The back end of a website is the portion that gives the website it's functionality. The development of the back end is usually a task for a web developer, also referred to as a programmer or coder. This process is called web development. A web developer will usually develop or create the back end of a website using select programming languages such as HTML, XHTML, PHP, ASP, VB.NET or other popular languages.

There are two main types of websites: 1) static web sites and 2) dynamic web sites.

A dynamic website is a database driven website that dynamically pulls data stored inside a database and displays it on the website. The information obtained from the database is usually user specific. An example of a dynamic website is Google.com. When a users types in a keyword or keyword phrase in the Google search bar, Google searches its massive database for websites relevant to the keyword or keyword phrase and displays the information it finds for the users.
